Drug Facts

Drug Abuse, Illicit Drug Trafficking and related crimes threatens National and Global Sustainable Development. And this situation continues to be worsen by misconception and misinformation not based on fact or evidence about it. As a result many people get expose to drugs and related activities or crimes on a daily base.

Before venturing into drugs, it is imperative that one reflects on the following realities

  • Drug use can lead to abuse and eventually drug addiction
  • Drug addiction can equally lead to drug overdose, death or serious health related complications
  • Exposes abusers to serious health problems
  • Unpredictability of the effect of the drug abuse as we all have different brains and body chemistry
  • Irrational and risky behaviour
  • Broken marriages, separation and divorce
  • Not knowing the chemical composition of the abused drug or how potent they are
  • Drug induced Psychosis and some of these drugs can cause short term confusion, anxiety or mental disturbance
  • Stimulant drugs such as Cocaine, Ectasy, Methamphetamine (meth) can increase a person’s heart rate and blood pressure which could lead to stroke or death.
  • These drugs can also cause convulsion
  • irregular heartbeat Or cause a person to have problem breathing

the list above is not the least exhaustive of the ills associated with drug abuse, it is therefore imperative that everyone tries to educate themselves as much as they can about it. This is because the more informed you are about these harms, the more confidently you can make the right decisions and stay away from drugs.
