18 years old Alagie Gassama of Foni Bintang was apprehended on the 21st March 2022 around 05:10 AM onwards at Amdallai Checkpoint with four (4) big bundles of suspected cannabis sativa. He was driving a fourteen seater commercial vehicle WCR 2070 B heading towards Brikama from Foni. The said suspected prohibited drugs were concealed in the booth of the vehicle.

24 years old Bubacarr Jah of Ebo Town was also arrested at Amdalai checkpoint on the same day around 06:15 AM onwards with two (2) big bundles of suspected cannabis sativa. He was onboard a Gele – Gele vehicle BJL 5212 L heading to Brikama from Foni. 

Twelve (12) accused persons were arraigned at the Basse Magistrate Court charged for obstruction pursuant to section 70 (4) (a) of the DCA 2003. 

 Dembo Camara, Ebrima Sabally, Modou Faye, Momodou Jabbi, Musa Camara, Abdou Sowe, Samba Barry, Yankuba Sowe, Amadou Krubally, Bakary Sanyang, Kanja Sowe and Abdou Barry are standing trial for obstructing Narcotic Officers in the due execution of their duties. Their conduct led to the willful damage of a state property (operational vehicle) and also caused grievous bodily harm to a suspect who was in custody. 

DLEAG operatives stationed in the Lower River Region took into custody a Senegalese national attempting to smuggle suspected cannabis sativa from Cassamance to Dakar through The Gambia.

23 years old Abdou Jobe of kaolack, Senegal was clutched at Yelli Tenda check point in the Lower River Region (LRR) with three (3) big bundles of suspected cannabis sativa on the  18 Match 2022 around  15:15 hours GMT onwards. 

He was onboard a seven seater Senegalese commercial vehicle ( Peugeot – white in color) with the registration number LG 8342 B. The said vehicle was heading to Dakar from Kalifour in Cassamance. 

He is presently in custody while further investigations continue. 

The Drug Law Enforcement Agency, The Gambia (DLEAG) on Thursday 17th March 2022 organized a day long capacity building/drug awareness sensitization workshop for the players and coaching staff of Dolphin Stars Football Club (FC). Held at the NaNa conference hall, the workshop aims at building their capacity as well as widen their understanding on evidenced based preventive drug demand reduction initiatives and other issues related to the dealing, trafficking and abuse of controlled and prohibited drugs.

Zakaria Sanyang, a 21 years old Student and a resident of Sinchu was apprehended by DLEAG’s Banjul Field Office with twenty eight (28) parcels, three (3) wraps and some quantities of suspected cannabis sativa. The said incident happened on the 10 March 2022 around 23:00 hours GMT onwards at Sinchu.

20 years old Modou Jarju, a driver by occupation was clutched by DLEAG’s Mandinaba Field Office with three (3) big bundles of suspected cannabis sativa. He was onboard a commercial vehicle with registration number WCR 7750 B heading towards Brikama from Foni. 

The said incident happened on the 10 March 2022 around 16:00 hours GMT onwards at Mandinaba checkpoint 

Both suspects are in custody as investigations continue. 

Two Senegalese engaged in illicit drug trafficking ran out of luck when they were clutched by DLEAG operatives at Yelli Tenda checkpoint in the Lower River Region. The duo were found in possession of two separate suit cases filled with suspected cannabis sativa that were wrapped with brown papers and concealed in plastic papers.

Saikou Omar Sanneh and Bamba Badjie were traveling from the Southern Senegalese region of Cassamance to the Northern part. Saikou Omar Sanneh is an adult male Senegalese National residing at Tankorong village in Cassamance. He claims to be a Farmer. 25 years old Bamba Badjie on the other hand claims to be a driver and he is a resident of Goudoump village in Cassamance.

The Director General (DG) of the Drug Law Enforcement Agency, The Gambia (DLEAG) Alhaji Bakary Gassama stated that Illicit drug trafficking and related activities including transnational organize crime is a persisting phenomenon threatening global peace, stability and socio-economic development. He made this statement at the opening session of a daylong session on drug awareness at the University of The Gambia (UTG) students’ week in Tendaba, Lower River Region.

DLEAG in collaboration with KEYCDA commenced a two days capacity building training for Executive Members of KEYCDA and selected youth and children representatives from Kombo East. Held at Kuloro Primary School, the training aims at building their capacity on matters relating to drug abuse, illicit drug trafficking and related activities. It also aims at widening their understanding on evidence based prevention strategies as well as foster cooperation between the Agency and the association.
It is expected that at the end of the two days training, participants will be equipped with evidenced based prevention strategies that can aid them contribute their quota in bridling drugs within the district and The Gambia at large

19 years old Ousainou Ceesay of Kuloborri Village in Senegal and 20 years old Matar Bojang of Brufut were apprehended on the 8 March 2022 around 23:15 hours GMT with suspected prohibited drugs. The duo were onboard a taxi with the registration number BJL 8804 T. Ousainou Ceesay who is a Senegalese was arrested with one (1) bundle of suspected cannabis sativa and Matarr Bojang who is a Gambian was clutched with three (3) big bundles of suspected cannabis sativa.

At Kabakorr Janak Juntion, Sulayman Bojang of Brikama Santa – Su was arrested with six big bundles of suspected cannabis sativa.

The Drug Law Enforcement Agency, The Gambia (DLEAG’s) Kanifing Municipal Regional Command clutched one Momodou Saidy, 58 years old Gambian National and a notorious drug dealer on Friday 8th October 2021 around 15:20 hours GMT onwards with twenty-one (21) wraps of suspected cocaine in Banjul.

This is the third time that operatives are apprehending Momodou Saidy for drug-related offenses. He was previously arrested on the 1st February 2019 with twenty-one (21) wraps of suspected cannabis and on the 24th June 2020 with forty-three (43) wraps of suspected cocaine.

On the matter involving the forty-three (43) wraps of cocaine, he was found guilty and fined by the court while the matter involving the suspected cannabis is still proceeding in court.
